I’ve been working at a festival in Dorset this week to earn some extra cash (prevent us from missing a mortgage payment and being made homeless).

My role’s been to sort out car parks and direct traffic. The weather has been biblically bad and I’ve spent most of the time pushing cars out of mud, but it’s actually been quite fun. It’s nice to do something for which there’s instant personal gratification and help someone in an immediate way. Car not stuck in mud equals happy person.

There are, it seems, fewer opportunities for these kinds of interactions these days.
